Stockland Green School alumni helping to inspire students

Stockland Green School alumni: The head of Stockland Green School says five dedicated staff members are evidence of the school’s community links – because they are all former students at the school.

Stockland Green, which is part of the respected Arthur terry Learning Partnership, has long been proud of its family ethos and Headteacher Rebecca Goode believes having so many former students on the staff is evidence of the school’s powerful presence in the Erdington community.

Chris Ohren (IT Technician), Jessica Saunders (Receptionist), Simran Sangha (Teacher of English), Mohammed Ali (Teacher of Maths) and Josh Harris (PE SCITT) are all ex-Stockland Green students now playing a crucial role in helping students thrive. Another former student, Lucia Jones, works at The Royal Sutton School.

Rebecca said: “We are extremely proud to have so many former students now among the staff here. It shows how much they enjoyed their time at the school and are keen to give something so important back to the community. It’s great to see that our PRIDE values are clearly staying with students after they leave the school.

Stockland Green School alumni help raise aspirations

“It’s about continuing to raise aspirations and about students being able to see for themselves the results of hard work and the benefits of an SGS education. Alumni sharing their journey is a powerful tool.

“We are a diverse school with students and staff of many different cultures but this unity is what makes us special; it means all of our young people can see the opportunities in front of them – as evidenced by the successful careers being enjoyed by our former students who now work here.

“Simran’s artwork is on display in the school and Mohammed and Lucia were both Head Students here. There really is a great family feel, which is strengthened by coffee mornings, weekly parent tours and the school acting as a hub for community events.”

She added: “Our Culture Week in the summer was another great example of how valuable it is to celebrate the diversity in our community. Students love celebrating and sharing their heritage. The increasingly popular Culture Catwalk featured some fantastic outfits and the food bought and cooked by students and parents was wonderful.

“The student voice here is very powerful and, crucially, the respect shown to the staff is remarkable. We are a tight-knit community inside and outside of school. We have relationships built over many years here and are very proud of that.”
