John Willmott London visit sees students enjoy capital day out

A John Willmott London visit meant students enjoyed a day to remember on 31 January when they visited the capital – including the Prime Minister’s residence – on the landmark date that the UK left the European Union.

Students from the school’s popular enrichment programme spent an unforgettable day in the capital, visiting iconic sites and even posing for a snap outside 10 Downing Street.

The day, which was part of one of the school’s many enrichment opportunities, was packed with visits to Buckingham Palace in time to see the changing of the guard, Westminster Cathedral, The Houses of Parliament and the historic Horse Guards Building.

The visit was a wonderful opportunity for John Willmott students to come together, to broaden their experiences and knowledge and to learn more about our capital city. This was a landmark date in UK history and what better place to be than at the epicentre of it all? The students thoroughly enjoyed their day,”

But the highlight of the day was a surprise visit to Downing Street. Headteacher Tracey Peters had arranged for the group to be granted access to the famous street and to be photographed outside the door of Number 10.

Mrs Peters said: “The John Willmott London visit was a wonderful opportunity for John Willmott students to come together, to broaden their experiences and knowledge and to learn more about our capital city. This was a landmark date in UK history and what better place to be than at the epicentre of it all? The students thoroughly enjoyed their day. Many had never been to London, so they gained a lot from the visit and it will certainly stay with them forever!

“John Willmott School provides a richly diverse, inclusive and supportive learning environment, where all children and young people are given the chance to grow and excel.

“We are very proud of our broad enrichment activities which encourage students to expand their horizons, to develop core skills such as leadership, ambition, self-confidence and resilience.

“We are committed to giving students that ‘cultural capital’ those wonderful experiences that span beyond the classroom and open their eyes to a wealth of opportunities without limit.”
