Financial advisors give tips to Arthur Terry students

Year 12 students at The Arthur Terry School were given some priceless financial advice by leading financial Advisers from Four Oaks Financial Services Ltd.

In an informative presentation on Wednesday, June 5th, Financial Advisers Harriet Horwitch-Smith and Ashley Reeves gave the students valuable insights into essential life skills including managing budgets, understanding how taxes work and saving for a pension.

Accompanied by Process Co-ordinator Lindsey Brandon, the Advisors gave the students a simple and easily understandable overview of some of the financial decisions they are likely to face when they leave the Kittoe Road school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP).

Lindsey said: “At Four Oaks Financial Services Ltd, we have always strived to be different to other financial Advisers.  It remains our aim to make a difference and offer something over and above the ordinary.

At the moment, financial education does not form part of the National Curriculum, so our youngsters are leaving school with no concept of the basic financial skills they need.

“I’m incredibly proud of our companies unique Financial Education initiative that provides free financial education to schools within the local area, to give school leavers a financial grounding before they head off into the big wide world.

“It has been a pleasure to join forces with the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership and deliver our message to the students.”

Neil Coleman, Head of Year 12 at Arthur Terry, said he believes financial skills are indispensable.

He said: “It’s the kind of thing that wasn’t talked about when I was at school, and I wish it had been!

“It’s certainly good for the students to have this sort of information before they start earning. The students now have an understanding of taxes and pensions, so they won’t get tempted to avoid paying into them for some instant gratification.

“It’s the kind of thing people in my generation had to learn the hard way!”
