Erdington students visit Fairfax for innovative sixth form taster day

Erdington students visit Fairfax – Pupils who have applied to join Fairfax Academy sixth form in September had the opportunity to visit the school for an immersive taster day.

The prospective sixth formers were given a tour of Fairfax, followed by a chance to observe lessons in a variety of subjects.

Erdington Academy’s Careers Advisor, Angela Richards, said: “It’s been really useful for the students to get that first-hand experience.

“I think they’ve enjoyed it, and it’s been good for them to find out more about the subjects they’re interested in. They could read the information, but there’s no substitute for actually observing a lesson.

“We have a strong link with Fairfax, being part of the FMAT (Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust). It’s great seeing so many students showing interest in attending sixth form there.”

Of the four schools in the FMAT partnership, Fairfax is the only one with a sixth form.

Acting Assistant Head of Sixth Form at Fairfax, Laura Dutton, said: “We’re eager to get as many students as possible coming to us from our partner schools, and opportunities like this really add to that feeling of familiarity for the students.

“The taster day has been really successful. Coming to a new school can be daunting, but the Erdington students have been very receptive to Fairfax – they’ve fit in really well.

“We hope it helps them settle in easier in September.”
