ARTHUR TERRY CHARITY CYCLISTS HELP RAISE THOUSANDS

Arthur Terry charity cyclists climbed into the saddle to pedal nearly 200 miles and raise £2000 for a good cause – without leaving the premises.

As part of Arthur Terry’s School’s fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support, students and staff planned to cycle 62 miles using static bikes in the school’s fitness suite on Thursday, September 3rd.

The indoor cycle – which initially aimed to equal two laps of the Canon Hill Park Extreme route – came before a Year 7 cake sale and Macmillan Coffee Morning the following day, all of which collected donations for the charity.

Abbie Gray took part too.

In the end, the determined Arthur Terry charity cyclists notched up an impressive 193 miles in total at the Kittoe Road school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP).

Organiser Hayley Harding.

Organiser Hayley Harding, who is the school’s Innovation Leader for Community and Charity, said: “Macmillan Coffee Morning is an event that has been running for 31 years and we wanted to challenge ourselves to do even more this year.

“So, to try to raise more funds alongside our annual bake sale, staff and students signed up to take turns and cycle the route in the Miles for Macmillan event. It was great fun and was a really successful way of raising extra money.

“We managed to cycle 193 miles instead of just 62, which meant we raised £417 from the cycling alone. In addition to that, we held a Macmillan coffee and cake sale, where staff and Year 7 baked and sold cakes, and a non-uniform day – and the grand total came to just over £2000!”
