The school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), has been named as a Lead School for Music Services For Education, the Hub Lead organisation for Birmingham.

The status is a huge achievement and recognition of Mere Green’s outstanding commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive music education for all children – both in the classroom and through extracurricular opportunities.

ATLP Creative Arts Lead Annie Undzhiyan said: “This achievement is a reflection of the commitment and vision of our Headteacher Kristal Brookes and Deputy Headteacher Lucia Wilder, who have supported the work we do from my very first day in Mere Green Primary. I am forever grateful for their direction, belief and support.”

As one of just four primary schools selected across Birmingham, Mere Green will play a key role in supporting the city’s music education. As a Lead School, it will help co-ordinate teacher training, school-to-school support and city-wide music initiatives to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to explore and develop their musical talent.

Richard Mabbott, Head of Music Service at Services For Education, captured it perfectly when he said: “We are delighted to be working with such passionate and experienced schools.

“Their leadership will help ensure that every young person, regardless of background, has the opportunity to discover and nurture their musical talent and have access to high-quality music education.”

The new Lead Schools will begin their work from summer 2025, with exciting plans already in motion for the 2025/26 academic year.
