PLANTSBROOK BAZAAR AIMS TO LIGHT UP SCHOOL FOR CHRISTMAS

The Plantsbrook School Christmas bazaar filled the Sutton Coldfield school with festive fun last week – in an event that aimed to raise cash for new lights for the school’s auditorium.

Hundreds turned out for the bazaar on Thursday, November 28, with dozens of stalls offering all kinds of festive treats, from home-cooked cakes to hand-crafted jewellery.

Phillippa Bleasdale, chair of the school’s PTA which organised the event, explained that it aimed to raise cash to pay for a new lighting rig to illuminate young performers.

“Plantsbrook is lucky to have one of the best auditoriums in the area,” she said, “and the students really love using it. It was one of the huge improvements Plantsbrook benefited from with the rebuild.

“Unfortunately, while the auditorium is brand new, the lights are the only thing that was kept from the old school hall – so we want to replace them with an up-to-date rig that properly reflects the new school.

“So, money raised by the Plantsbrook School Christmas bazaar will go towards those lights.”

Products on offer at the event included everything from Christmas decorations to cute cacti, and young members of the school council were on hand to serve up food to shoppers.

One former Plantsbrook pupil, Beth Ratheram, who now works in research and analysis, brought along her hand-crafted silver jewellery, a skill she first became interested in while a student at the school.

The renowned school band provided music for the Plantsbrook School Christmas bazaar, while a raffle offered prizes including signed Aston Villa footballs and cinema tickets.

“We are really blown away by how many people turned up,” Phillippa said, “and I would like to thank everyone who got involved, from stall holders to volunteers and parents. It was a great community event.”

Headteacher Tracy Campbell said: “We’ve never known a school bazaar like it. I am really proud of the way that our whole school community pulled together, organised and led by our fabulous parents.”
